Hexentanz, Op 17 No. 2

Edward MacDowell (1860 - 1908)

arranged Niemann

Edward MacDowell was born in America of Scottish descent.  He travelled extensively in his youth, studying as a fellow-student with Debussy at the Paris Conservatoire before returning to America in 1887.

This sparkling little piece cleverly portrays a coven of witches dancing through the night and scuttling away at sunrise.

Originally published as the second of his two Fantast pieces for solo piano, the work is heard here in an arrangement for piano duet.
